Datalink Program
Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Contract (ADS-C)
ADS-C allows the establishment of communication contracts between ground systems and an aircraft's avionics system. An ADS-C contract contains the ATC data requirements for ADS reporting, as well as the frequency of the ADS reports (Clearance). An ADS-C manual is available to operators without CPDLC as a stand-alone program to supplement an existing International Operations Manual.
Controller Pilot Datalink Communication (CPDLC)
CPDLC is a datalink application that allows for the direct exchange of text-based messages between a controller and a pilot. CPDLC improves communication capabilities in oceanic areas, especially in situations where controllers and pilots have previously had to rely on a Third Party HF communications relay. CPDLC includes a set of clearance / information / request message elements which correspond to existing phraseology employed by current Air Traffic Control procedures.
Datalink (both ADS-C and CPDLC)
Operational policy and procedures are contained in an appendix to the International Operations Manual and are intended to be part of the operator’s International Operations Manual.
